The Peer Specialist works as a member of a team of professionals who provide treatment and services to people who use mental health and co-occurring substance abuse services in the community. The Peer Specialist contributes to the Agency’s mission to assist individuals with recovery from psychiatric difficulties through the provision of a wide range of non-clinical activities that engage, educate, and support individuals, their family members, and caregivers. The Peer Specialist provides recovery training and outreach to peers in both group and individual settings while demonstrating the values of hopefulness for recovery, respect, acceptance, personal responsibility, honesty, and self-advocacy to both peers and colleagues.

Requirements

The Peer support specialist must have a high school diploma/GED or higher education. Must have personally experienced mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorder. Must have Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPPS) Certification or be willing to obtain certification within first year of employment. Prior experience working in a mental health setting is a plus.
