The Vermont Department of Health Brattleboro District Office has a great opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about improving community health. If you have excellent clinical skills and are looking for new ways to apply your skills outside of a clinical environment, this position may be a great fit for you! Public health nurses participate in the development, refinement and implementation of department programs and public health initiatives at the local level. Public health nurses collaborate with other professionals, community partners and consumers on strategies to improve population health. This position has occasional opportunities for direct client contact, but this is not a major aspect of the position
This is a part-time position which will be scheduled for 20 hours per week, with the potential for increased hours in the future. The position is eligible for benefits!
The Public Health Nurse's primary programmatic focus will be School Health and Healthy Homes. All Public Health Nurses are trained to provide investigative coverage for infectious disease surveillance and immunizations. All Department of Health employees participate in emergency preparedness planning and operation.
All nurses must be competent in clinical skills such as venipunctures, tuberculin skin testing, and vaccinations. This position also requires use of various database systems and Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and candidates should be proficient in these programs.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting. Work may be performed in clinic settings and possibly client homes. Exposure to communicable diseases and other stressful situations may occur. Private means of transportation is required. May be required to work evenings, weekends and 12 hour shifts.
Associate's degree in nursing AND five (5) years or more of professional nursing experience INCLUDING three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) AND three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*.
Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont
*Community Health Nursing is defined as school nursing, home health nursing, home visiting nurses and community nurse health educators.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Must maintain Vermont licensure as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
