The Vermont Department of Health Brattleboro District Office has a dynamic opportunity for an enthusiastic and organized nurse who is passionate about improving community health. The right candidate will be part of an inter-disciplinary team of public health professionals; nurses, nutritionists, dental hygienist, substance abuse prevention specialist, etc., to make a difference in the health and well-being of communities in Southeastern Vermont.
Our Registered Nurses work in a variety of community health areas; primary programmatic content of focus for the right candidate will be: School Health with a secondary focus on Healthy Homes. All Public Health Nurses are trained to provide investigative coverage for infectious disease surveillance and immunizations. All Department of Health employees participate in emergency preparedness planning and operation.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting. Work may be performed in clinic settings and possibly client homes. Exposure to communicable diseases and other stressful situations may occur. Private means of transportation is required. May be required to work evenings, weekends and 12 hour shifts.
Associate's degree in nursing AND five (5) years or more of professional nursing experience INCLUDING three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) AND three (3) or more years in public health or community health nursing*.
Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont
*Community Health Nursing is defined as school nursing, home health nursing, home visiting nurses and community nurse health educators.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Must maintain Vermont licensure as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
