The Vermont Veterans' Home, a long-term care nursing facility, is seeking to hire a cook with experience in volume cooking to prepare meals for our veterans and members. This is a temporary position working approximately 20 hours per week, primarily filling in gaps in the schedule and assisting at special events. The hours will vary and will include weekends and holidays.

This position, Cook B (Job Requsition #204), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week. This position is expected to be scheduled for approximately 20 hours per week.

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including Vermont and national criminal record checks, adult and child abuse registry checks, the Office of Inspector General exclusion database, and motor vehicle driving record checks where applicable.
Work is performed in an institutional kitchen during an assigned shift. Incumbents must be able to operate cutters and slicers, handle knives, lift heavy weights (up to 60 lbs), and work under conditions of high heat and humidity. Duties may include exposure to institutional residents in work situations.
Eighth grade graduation or equivalent AND two 2 years or more of experience in volume cooking
Completion of a high school level culinary arts career preparation program AND one 1 year or more of experience in volume cooking.
