Civil Engineer VIII - Asset Management Bureau

This Civil Engineer VIII position is within the Asset Management Bureau. The selected candidate will have a leadership and supervisory role on a team that works together to understand the highway network asset needs, coordinates with many other Agency Bureaus and Sections to determine the most cost effective and efficient ways to deliver major maintenance and larger capital improvements, and then prepares programs and budgets that are used throughout the Highway Division to implement improvements on the state highway network. The selected candidate will focus primarily on roadway assets, including but not limited to; pavements, culverts, signs, traffic signals and guardrail. This position provides the opportunity to get involved and have an impact on the investment decisions made to improve and sustain the highway network in Vermont.

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Some out of State travel to represent the Agency at Regional and National meetings. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
Master'a degree in civil engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND six (6) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering, including or supplemented by two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND eight (8) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering, including or supplemented by two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND ten (10) years or more of professional civil engineering work, including or supplemented by two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Five (5) years or more as a Civil Engineer VII in the Agency of Transportation with the State of Vermont.
Two (2) years as a Civil Engineer VII in the Agency of Transportation with the State of Vermont AND ten (10)years or more of transportation engineering work with the Agency of Transportation with the State of Vermont.
NOTE: Some positions may require two years of supervisory experience. Participation in the State's Supervisor's Development Program may be substituted for supervisory experience.
NOTE: Some positions in this class may require registration as a professional engineer.
