BGS Maintenance Mechanic II

Buildings & General Services at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity as a BGS Maintenance Mechanic II. This position requires experience in multiple trades. Duties include installation, repair, and maintenance of buildings, systems, equipment, and machinery, as well as daily computer work. This position is based within a State Office building, but will require work in other buildings as needed. The hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4pm. Candidates should be able to successfully work independently and with a team.

Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior, and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage, for which protective clothing must be worn. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. May require possession of a valid driver's license. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience in building construction, structural maintenance, or building repair and maintenance
Completion of a one (1) year vocational/technical training program in building trades, mechanical repair, industrial arts or a closely related field AND two (2) years or more of experience in building construction, structural maintenance, or building repair and maintenance.
State licensure at or above the journeyman level in any trade area.
