The Agency of Transportation has an exciting opportunity for an independent thinking, problem-solving person looking to work in the construction field as an Inspector or Chief Inspector with an opportunity for advancement into the Resident Engineer role. Construction inspectors are exposed to a wide variety of construction projects while gaining valuable experience in actively checking and documenting all aspects of transportation projects. The Construction Section oversees roadway & bridge construction, railroad work, and even covered bridge construction statewide. You will assist in the inspection of a
specific project or multiple projects under the direction of a Chief Inspector or Resident Engineer. Or, based on experience, be assigned the Chief Inspector for the project(s). The official workstation is Construction Headquarters in Berlin and you may be assigned to work anywhere in the State.

Duties are generally performed in both an office and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded and steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Associate's degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, or architecture, and two years experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.
High school graduation or equivalent and four (4) years of experience as described above.
Two (2) years as an AOT Technician II with the State of Vermont.
