Dartmouth Journal Services

Founded in 2002, Dartmouth Journal Services provides copyediting, composition and journal production management services for scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly journal publishers. Our dedicated staff assists publishers in every step of the journal production process. Superior customer service is what sets Dartmouth Journal Services apart from our competitors. We enjoy a close relationship with our customers, many of whom are key publishers in the country. Since the nature of electronic media has changed the face of publishing forever, we are committed to developing technologies that transcend print.

Our company is a part of the Sheridan Group, based in Hunt Valley, Maryland, which consists of four companies with a strong reputation for producing quality journals, magazines, catalogs and books:
  • Dartmouth Journal Services, Waterbury, Vermont
  • Dartmouth Printing Company, Hanover, New Hampshire
  • The Sheridan Press, Hanover, Pennsylvania
  • Sheridan Books, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Working at Dartmouth Journal Services

Our office is modern, comfortable and located in a picturesque area, with an easy commute from Burlington, Montpelier and Stowe. We have a casual dress code, which appeals to many of our employees. About a third of our staff enjoys working from their home offices located in other states.

We work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Our employees choose to work here because they enjoy working with written material, they like combination of independent and team work, and are committed to producing highest-quality journals possible. Our Leadership Team, management and staff are friendly, approachable, hardworking and dedicated. Our office environment tends to be quiet and respectful to accommodate the nature of work. However, we make time for fun as well. We have many office traditions, including summer picnics, weekly Trivia games, on-site lunch time yoga classes, book and media swaps, employee hikes to Vermont peaks, Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge, pot lucks, among others.

“As Senior Copyediting Coordinator, I take great pride in my role within the fields of science and medicine, even though it is not a strictly scientific or medical one. Even though I can’t count myself among the researchers and doctors who are making important strides and discoveries in their respective fields, I firmly believe that I am contributing to the same noble cause by helping them communicate their science as clearly and as quickly as possible. I feel that the work I do at DJS has integrity, purpose, and global significance; it is these factors that inspire me to provide the highest quality service to our customers, to do what I can to support and encourage my colleagues in the same effort—and to have a little bit of fun in the process”
 Peter, long-term employee

“Working for Dartmouth Journal Services has allowed me to interact with some incredible societies and authors. It’s fairly common to see our customers cited across all sorts of media and news outlets. At the end of the day, we are helping the best and brightest in the world get their words out there.”
 Peter, recent UVM grad
