Montpelier's 'Green' Campus
- An array of 418 rooftop solar panels now helps power National Life's Montpelier headquarters. The solar thermal system will supply 50 percent of the hot water used in the facility.
- Each week National Life recycles 750 pounds of cardboard, diverts 4,500 pounds of shredded office paper through composting and reuse as animal bedding, and composts 2,500 pounds of food waste.
- In 2008, National Life updated 6,026 light fixtures to High Performance T8 lighting systems, which is expected to cut their annual energy use by 337,700 kwh.
- In 2008, they recycled 68 percent of their waste.
- Incentives for those who walk, bike, carpool, or take the bus to work (over 22 percent of employees participated in the program during 2008).
Community Giving
